Song of the Day: 'Call Me' by Giorgio Moroder
I definitely had sexual feelings for boys (and then men) dating back to my earliest memories on the playground. But when the ad campaign for "American Gigolo" began airing at the beginning of 1980 -- when I was 12 -- things were taken to another level. Richard Gere's snazzy shirt-and-tie look set my imagination on fire -- undoubtedly why the garb is such a turn-on to me till this day.
And when I was finally able to sneak and watch the movie late at night on cable a year or so later, the scene where Julian goes to the dark and steamy gay nightclub called Probe -- which I would later frequent myself -- was the one I always found the most titillating. Here's an instrumental version of "Call Me" featuring that and some of my other favorite scenes -- which I'm posting in celebration of the legendary Giorgio Moroder's 79th birthday, which was on Friday.

Weekend Tennis Roundup
Pretty much got what I wanted out of the remains of the weekend. I was happy to see sexpot Matteo Berrettini follow up on his Challenger win in Phoenix with a win in Hungary even though I was sad to see Filip Krajinovic be a bridesmaid again.
This is the hunky Italian's second ATP-level title ...
graduate of the Handsome Boy Modeling School ...
but the dreamy Croatian qualifier still hasn't captured one yet. You may recall that Filip was a surprise finalist at the 2017 Paris Masters. He's now ranked No. 74 while winner Jack Sock has plummeted to No. 124.
And in the doubles finals -- sponsored by KY lube -- Brits Neal Skupski and Ken Skupski took out New Zealand’s Marcus Daniell and Dutchman Wesley Koolhof 6-3, 6-4 to win the Hungarian Open for their second team title.
In Barcelona Dominic Thiem routed Daniil Medvedev 6-4 ,6-0 to take home the crown. It was only fair given that he'd beaten Rafael Nadal in the semis
Although my boyfriend was upset Nadal lost ...
everyone has to be happy to see Thiem strip down to JUMP IN THE POOL, as is customary!
Not to be outdone, doubles hunks Robert Farah and Juan Sabastian Cabal followed suit, celebrating their 6-4, 7-6(4) triumph over Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares ...

On the women's side, Petra Kvitova beat Anett Kontaveit 6-3 7-6 (2) to win the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, Germany. Naomi Osaka continued her post-Australian Open flakefest, pulling out against Kontaveit in the semis. But AO runnerup Kvitova became the first woman to win two titles in 2019 -- and bizarre streak that needed to be broken.
In other Petra news, Petra Martic beat Marketa Vondrousova 1-6 6-4 6-1 to win the TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Cup in Istanbul, Turkey
And Zheng Saisai beat Zhang Shuai 6-4 6-1 to win the Kunming Open in Anning, China.

Song of the Day: 'Lay Down Your Arms' by the Graces
With the exception of David Letterman, I was never a big late-night TV guy. So it's no surprise I missed this -- what I consider unimaginable now -- performance by the Graces on "The Arsenio Hall Show"! Go-Go's guitarist Charlotte Caffey looks like a deer in the headlights singing lead alongside Gia Ciambotti and future Grammy winner (and total "Bitch") Meredith Brooks, but they sound great. This single actually reached No. 56 on the Billboard 100, placing third Charlotte behind Belinda Carlisle and Jane Wiedlin on the "solo" success ladder. (Not that it was a competition.)
The followup, "Perfect View," was even better, but failed to chart, as did the two after that. I wonder what Charlotte was thinking at this time. She was still very much working with Belinda on her solo projects -- but as a prolific songwriter I'm sure she was itching to have an outlet for more. I wonder if she thought this would be her next big success, or if she really considered more of a lark. The Graces' one album, 1989's "Perfect View," was awfully good. What a shame it tanked and the band would never record again, despite carrying on for a couple years after Brooks left to (again) pursue her solo career.

This song really changed the face of music for a bit when it came out, thanks to its trademark Wall of Synth production by Stock Aitken Waterman.. (How it missed the U.S. Top 10 is beyond me.)
