Song of the Day: 'Lover-to-Be' by Morrissey

Leave it to a big queen like Morrissey to use a photo of Donnelly Rhodes -- aka criminal on the run Dutch on TV's "Soap" -- on the cover of his "Lover-to-Be" single! Bonus points for finding a mustachioed photo of the hunky Canadian actor who died last year at 80.

Awfully cute, if you can get past their racist crimes.

I thought "these people" were going to die out and usher in a more egalitarian society.

And get this: It happened in New York state!

Weekend Tennis Roundup

Things got a little frosty this weekend in our apartment -- and I'm not just referring to the temperature dropping with the wind and rain. Novak Djokovic finally tried to win again -- and captured his first tournament since the Australian Open.

Not only is Damian convinced the Serb will win four majors in a row -- again. He's smarting that Nole beat both Dominic Thiem and Stefanos Tsitsipas -- the two men who are considered most likely to succeed the Big Three, and the two men who eliminated his guy, Rafael Nadal. I for one will never count Rafa out at the French Open. But he has struggled to find his form this year even on clay this year, something we haven't seen since 2015.

I'm more comfortable with Thiem in the top four than Zverev, even if I'm still not convinced either of them has "what it takes."

Meanwhile, Kiki Bertens's reign of terror continues. I always thought Kim Clijsters was the most boring top player of all time ... but it's beginning to look like she's going to be supplanted by the Dutch dud. I guess the only good thing to come out of her win -- where she didn't drop a set in beating Siniakova, Ostapenko, Sevastova, Kvitova, Stephens and Halep -- is that she kept Simona from regaining the No. 1 spot. (Osaka has TWO majors and it's still not enough!) Here's hoping the Romanian pipsqueak sheds all of her Paris points and that we won't have to worry about that ranking possibility again anytime soon.

Dominic Thiem and Diego Schwartzman may have lost in the men's doubles final to Horia Tecau and Jean-Julien Rojer.

But everyone was a winner watching four of the hottest men on the circuit on the court together.

Deliciano followed James Blake and Tommy Haas into tournament-director land, and it sounds like ZZ Top was right ...

Around the net ...

This might not be the most modest post from Liam "I shouldn't wear white shorts on a humid day" Broady, but he's right.

Ya gotta have heart ...

Next stop: Rome ...

Where Rafael Nadal will have one last chance to prove he's still the King of Clay before Roland Garros ...

Song of the Day: 'Fur' by Jane Wiedlin

With the passing of the great Doris Day, much has been written about the work she did to prevent animal cruelty. The tributes have been heartfelt and well-deserved -- and so many great old photos. But this 1970 print had for faux fur -- featuring Doris, Amanda Blake (1929-1989), Jayne Meadows (1919-2015), Angie Dickinson (1931-present) and Mary Tyler Moore (1936-2017) -- might just be my favorite memento of all.
