The singer/songwriter and actress turned 67 today. I remember making fun of her classic hit "Jolene" when I first heard it on Olivia Newton-John's "Come on Over" album, updating the lyrics to "Jolene, Jolene, your mother's not clean." Years later I came to realize what a brilliant piece of work it is, so simple yet so poignant. (What woman gay man hasn't felt what Dolly felt? I still get on edge when I think of the angelic blond who used to drive all the guys crazy in Washington in the 1990s, how it made me feel when my boyfriend looked at him.) As the writer of some of the best songs of our generation ('Jolene," "I Will Always Love You," "Do I Ever Cross Your Mind?," "Two Doors Down," "To Daddy"), and the actress who played two of film's most memorable characters (Doralee Rhodes in "9 to 5," and Truvy Jones in "Steel Magnolias"), Dolly Parton is a living legend and American icon. Happy birthday, girl!

Kudos to Tumblr blogger Mattyrab, who captured Michelle Obama throwing John Boehner "world-historical shade."

So Sorry, She Said
Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker's wife now says she's sorry for posting this on Facebook after her hubby's steam lost to the Ravens in Sunday's AFC Championship game:
“Proud of my husband and the Pats. By the way, if anyone is bored, please go to Ray Lewis’ Wikipedia page. 6 kids 4 wives. Acquitted for murder. Paid a family off. Yay. What a hall of fame player! A true role model!”I'm guessing she's apologizing for not getting her facts straight. Lewis has never been married to any of the mothers of his children.

Quote of the Day: Sheryl Crow
"I think that honesty is always the best bet and that the truth will set you free." -- Grammy winner and potential poet laureate Sheryl Crow, reacting to ex-boyfriend Lance Armstrong's admission that he had been using performance-enhancing drugs all along.

Serbian Superman
Novak Djokovic showed no lingering signs of fatigue today from his marathon round of 16 match against Stan Wawarinka, cruising to a 6-1 4-6 6-1 6-4 victory over Tomas Berdych to advance to his 11th successive Grand Slam semifinal. He didn't take his shirt off after today's win, but since I found an additional photo (above) from the other day I figured I'd post it anyway ...

Let's Get Small
Not sure if my apartment would qualify for this "micro-apartment" contest -- New York City real estate brokers DO NOT share square footage information on their rental listings -- but I may just need to stop by the Museum of the City of New York for some decorating ideas, the best source of inspiration since HGTV's "Small Spaces, Bit Style" went off the air! Read HERE.
