David Barton Gym Moving Into Former Limelight

Must have missed the news that David Barton was no longer a part of his own gym company, but here's some news that will get Club Kids' heads spinning:

Page Six reports:
New York’s storied Limelight is about to start a new life, as a trendy gym.

The famed former Episcopal Church and Peter Gatien nightspot, which raged in the ’80s and ’90s, in 2003 became the club Avalon, and is currently used as retail space, the Limelight Market Place. But David Barton Gym will be converting part of the Gothic Revival brownstone buildings into a workout Mecca, Page Six has learned.

Following the departure of its muscle-bound founder David Barton in November, the relocation of the gym’s flagship from 23rd Street into the former nightclub, on the corner of Sixth Avenue and 20th Street, will take place under the helm of new CEO Howard Brodsky. Studio Sofield will design the new 20,000-square-foot gym, which is planned to open in fall 2014.

David Barton will be taking over the second and third floors of Limelight, plus the first floor’s back altar for a free-weight shrine. High-end retail is being pitched for the first floor, with the current retailers expected to leave after the holidays.

I'm hearing the 2014 Dieux du Stade (Gods of the Stadium) calendar is selling like hot cakes and is now out of stock, yet I never even came across a place to purchase it in the U.S. in the first place. No matter, I've got several more beefy ass shots for you HERE.

As offensive as this may be coming from the country's most venerable LGBT publication, it's hard not to recognize how important it is to have the Pope encourage the masses not to hate us. Now if only Timothy Dolan would listen to his ... boss. Read HERE.

Had a great time at SAGE's annual Toy Party last night at Chelsea Piers. (Hosts Robby Browne, David Tufts and Chris Kann got in "trouble" for calling it Toys for Tots even though they were just calling it that because that's what it is, not because they were trying to trade in on the Marines' efforts.) Along with the Out 100, this annual soiree -- which I've been going to since admission was simply an unwrapped toy -- is always a favorite, when you have multiple "I haven't seen you in ages" moments with old colleagues, tricks and friends ... and drink entirely too much. (My plus one may have made off with a bottle of gin at some point.) If you'd like to make a donation to SAGE -- which stands for Services & Advoacy for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgenders Seniors -- just click HERE.

Happy to see Hall and Oates among the 2014 inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the day after one of my (vile) neighbors opened one of the duo's CDs I had bought on Amazon and then left it in the lobby when they didn't like what they saw. Nirvana, Linda Ronstadt, Cat Stevens, Peter Gabriel and KISS were also selectedd. The ceremony will be held at the Brooklyn Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Thursday, April 10 -- and will be open to the public.
