RIP: Gay Rights Pioneer Jose Sarria Is Dead at 91
Sad to hear about the passing of Jose Sarria, the first openly gay man to run for public office in the United States.
A remembrance from the NGLTF:
The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force mourns the loss of LGBT rights pioneer Jose Julio Sarria. He was 91, a World War II veteran and the first openly LGBT candidate to run for public office in North America. Sarria was a candidate for the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 1961.RIP, Empress.
In 1965, Sarria declared himself “Empress Jose I, The Widow Norton” after winning a drag queen competition at the Tavern Guild’s “Beaux Arts Ball.” With that proclamation, the first Court Chapter of the International Court System was established.
Russell Roybal, First Imperial Grandson to Empress I Jose, The Widow Norton and Deputy Executive Director of External Relations of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, said: “Words cannot express what a tremendous loss I feel today on the passing of Jose Sarria. He is an icon of the LGBT community, a hero, a mentor and a friend. Jose brought laughter, camp and fun to all of our lives and to the struggle not just for gay and lesbian liberation, but for all people. His legacy as a gay Latino leader, activist and drag queen will live on for all of us who share his commitment to the communities from which we come.”

Matthew Sweet and Susanna Hoffs Go Back to the '80s!
Foreshadowing: Sid 'n' Susie strike a '90s pose?
Matthew Sweet and Susanna Hoffs' beloved covers project -- Sid 'n' Susie -- are back with a third album, this time focusing on the 1980s. FBI artist says age-adjusted image of Etan Patz resembles teen in photo owned by one-time suspect
Dear New York Post:
I guess your EXCLUSIVE story "FBI artist says age-adjusted image of Etan Patz resembles teen in photo owned by one-time suspect" is kind of interesting. But then you admit that the police have determined 100 percent, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that the young man on the right is NOT Etan Patz. Yet your source keeps insisting that he is, so then I'm not entirely sure what your point is.
Love,
Kenny

Jesus Christ. This is the horror I was greeted with as I arrived at work today. Out of respect for the victim, I opted not to ask for a pic-with Dr. Oz -- just a horrible scene. Read HERE.

Think the royal family is an outdated joke, but admire Prince Harry for keeping his mother's effort to rid the world of landmines alive. I'd probably even feel this way even if he didn't look dashing in khaki.

Police: Aussie Baseball Player Killed by 'Bored' Okla. Teens
What the f**k is wrong with people?
Prosecutors filed charges today against three Oklahoma teens accused of killing an Australian baseball player because they were "bored" and "wanted to see someone die."
Two teenagers, ages 15 and 16 years old, were charged with first-degree murder and were ordered to be held without bond.
A third suspect, age 17, was charged with use of a vehicle in the discharge of weapon and being an accessory after the fact to first-degree murder.
The teens have not yet entered a plea, according to a spokeswoman for the district attorney's office.
The suspects followed Lane, 22, as he jogged alongside a road in Duncan, Okla., Friday afternoon, shot him in the back and left him to die on the side of the road, Duncan Police Chief Danny Ford told ABCNews.com
"They were bored and just wanted to see somebody die," Ford said.
Lane, who is from Melbourne, Australia, majored in business and finance at East Central University in Ada, Okla., where he also played catcher on the school's baseball team.
Lane's father, Peter Lane, told media in Australia: "There's not gonna be any good to come out of this cause it was just so senseless."

Mother F**kers!
Have been to three movies recently and each time the trailer for "Adore" got the theater (unintentionally) laughing. Since no one at work knew about this -- I guess many people don't go to the cinema anymore -- thought I'd share it with you now. The film centers around two women who have been best friends forever (Naomi Watt and Robin Wright) and their sons (Xavier Samuel and James Frecheville) -- whom they both start sleeping with. Although we're supposed to buy it because it's got some French roots and is based on a Doris Lessing novella -- "The Grandmothers"! -- the dialogue and the situations are so over the top that I think we may have the love child of "Showgirls" and an Abercrombie & Fitch catalog on our hands! See for yourself here:
Yes, I did see it at Sundance. The boys are hot and the movie is HILARIOUSLY campy. The audience laughed the whole time and at the end of the movie the director, a French woman, got up for the Q&A and said, "I didn't realize I made a comedy!"

Amusement Park Cancels Wedding Contest Rather Than Include Gay Couple
When two men protested their exclusion from a wedding contest at Cedar Point amusement park in Sandusky, Ohio -- site of many childhood memories, a big diversion from going to our usual Bob-Lo -- the contest was quickly canceled. What assholes. Guess I won't be going on the Pirate again anytime soon. Kind of depressing seeing as this is the same place where the film "Edge of Seventeen" was filmed back in the late '90s.
