My pal Michael Alago gives us this update about his new documentary, which I wrote about HERE.
At long last! The world premiere of “Who the Fuck Is That Guy? The Fabulous Journey of Michael Alago.” The June 9th screening at Theater 80 in New York City has sold out. By popular demand a second screening has been added Wednesday July 19th at the Nitehawk Cinema in Brooklyn. Tickets go on sale next week. July 21-27 the film will be screening in Los Angeles at the Arena Cinelounge before going to “video on demand” (July 25 - Aug. 25th)
Thank you for the support and we look forward to seeing you soon at one of the events!
Congrats, Michael!

Have no clue where season two might go -- felt the same way with "Bloodline" and now we're on three! -- but am tickled to see filming is under way for "Search Party," my surprise favorite show of the past year.

Song of the Day: 'Kiss and Make Up' by Saint Etienne (featuring Donna Savage)

Today is the release of Saint Etienne's new LP, "Home Counties." While I take that in, here's the band's second single from all the way back in 1990, recorded right before they realized Sarah Cracknell was the girl for them. Moira Lambert recorded the first demo of "Kiss and Make Up," but the band liked her take of "Only Love Can Break Your Heart" better, so released that as single one. They then got Donna Savage to re-record this Field Mice song to great effect and released it as the follow-up. (Lambert's very different spin on "Kiss and Make Up" can be heard as a bonus track on "Foxbase Beta," and Cracknell's more familiar version on the U.S. and deluxe reissue of "Foxbase Alpha.") Cracknell did single three, "Nothing Can Stop Us," and the rest is history, as they say. Only I still have one question. I could have sworn Cracknell re-recorded "Only Love Can Break Your Heart" at some point, only I can find no record of it. Does anyone know if this is true?

L.A. Football Teams Sponsor Venice LGBTQ Pride

Some upbeat news to end your week from the Golden State.

The Los Angeles Times reports:
The Rams and Chargers are in a so-called “Fight for L.A.,” a competition that includes wooing — and accepting — new fans from all parts of Southern California’s diverse population.
Both franchises have reached out to the LGBTQ community to help sponsor this weekend’s second annual Venice Pride celebration of diversity.
Each sponsored a letter in the VENICE sign that will be illuminated Friday at 9 p.m. as part of a sign lighting and block party in Venice.
The Rams committed to sponsor the letter C in early May, becoming the first NFL team to officially sponsor a Pride event, said Grant Turck, executive director of Venice Pride. The Chargers signed on later in the month to sponsor the letter N.
“It opens a place for our community within the NFL,” Turck said. “The ultimate message is: inclusion wins. “If you choose to be inclusive, that’s the more prosperous approach, not just for the LGBTQ community but for everybody.”
Hear! Hear! And for the record, I have been a fan of L.A. football since Howie Long sported a sexy 'stache while playing for the Raiders when they were based there.

Ireland's Next Prime Minister Is a Gay 38-Year-Old Indian-Irish Doctor

The headline is the good news. The bad news is he's also an anti-union conservative obsessed with entitlements, who campaigned on the slogan "Welfare cheats cheat us all" and wants to ban essential workers from going on strike.

CNN reports that Leo Varadkar -- the son of an Indian-born father and Irish mother -- became a doctor before first entering Irish parliament at the age of 27. He's promised to represent the "people who get up early in the morning" -- sigh -- in an effort to harness the support of Ireland's rural farmers, the middle class and elderly -- rhetoric that critics say both alienates and demonizes a large chunk of Ireland's casual workforce, who have been hit by increased austerity measures. Still, he is pro-European Union and supported gay marriage -- and perhaps thinks Ireland's ban on abortion is too restrictive, so I guess we'll see where he goes from there.

The New York Post: I'm heartbroken for Britain, which has been the target of three deadly terror attacks in as many months. Now that we know that neither pretending there isn't a problem nor calling all Muslims terrorists isn't fixing things, does anyone have any idea how we combat this deadly form of counterculture

My gut tells me there really isn't anything we can do, other than try to stop attacks before they happen. And scarily, Trump doesn't believe in any of our intelligence agencies, opting for The Drudge Report as his major source of information.

I'd say it's just as unfair to criticize Trump for playing golf during a crisis as it was to criticize Obama for doing the same -- except it was the current golfer in chief who was constantly ripping into him. Furthermore, Obama never claimed to have a "secret plan to defeat ISIS" that was "foolproof." (Is that still a secret????) Apparently all we can do is wait for this administration to end.

Why are we ready to go to war over a bakery that won't make a cake for a gay wedding, yet we barely acknowledge when a nation that has criminalized gay sex (punishable by sentences of up to 20 years) does vile things like this? (Hint: Because it's a Muslim majority country and everyone's too afraid to stand up for fear of being called Islamophobic -- so they sit around patting themselves on the back for being so enlightened to know that not all Muslims are homophobes and terrorists. Kudos!) And did you know a former deputy prime minister, Anwar Ibrahim, was convicted of “sodomy” and the Malaysian government also recently endorsed conversion therapy? Wake up, activists! Moderate Indonesia is just as bad. Read HERE.
