Page 1 Roundup (03/14)
Not the first time someone's been promised 8+ inches only to be sorely disappointed.
Although the storm was a dud, suburbanites got the day off while city dwellers like me had to work ... with wet socks.
Some intrepid White House staffer leaked the administration's numbers to Politico and it's worse than what the CBO predicted: per Team Trump's figures, 26 million lose their insurance, yet they keep saying the CBO numbers are inflated..

Song of the Day: 'Thinking of You' by Sister Sledge
Sad to read about the too-soon death of Joni Sledge, whose sisterly group recorded two of the most memorable songs of the disco era in "He's the Greatest Dancer" and "We Are Family." But it was "Thinking of You" -- written by Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards -- that was their true masterpiece, so much so that the legendary Paul Weller even covered it 2004. Read more about Joni's passing HERE.
My love to all of Joni's friends and family at this difficult time -- the sisters just announced that the show will go on.

What About Fuzz-on-Fuzz Friendship?
There's been a lot of depressing news in the world lately. But the NYPD's recruitment of Martin -- a 6-month-old stray tabby who has his own special wire baskets for napping, three food stations around the Coney Island precinct, plenty of toys. and a knack for sensing when cops need a little TLC -- has me smiling from ear to ear! Read HERE.
Helps reduce the sting of the death of Popo, the 33rd precinct's mascot who died in December.

NYPD Officer Who Made Headlines for Twerking at Gay Pride Parade Dies of Sept. 11-Related Cancer
Sad to read about the passing of NYPD Officer Michael Hance, who raised eyebrows and made headlines in 2015 for twerking with a reveler at the city's Gay Pride parade. The Daily News reports that 17-year veteran of the NYPD, who worked the bucket brigade in the aftermath of the terror attack on the World Trade Center, died Sunday at 44 of cancer attributed to the tragedy. (Republicans claim to be the pro-cop party, yet fought tooth and nail against renewing the Zadroga Act, which helped pay for treatment for those who risked their lives on Sept. 11.)
"He always liked to help people," his brother, Peter Hance, 45, told the Daily News. "He always liked to do good."
Hance, who worked out of the 111th Precinct in Bayside, Queens, was diagnosed with brain cancer in November after he fell in front of his home and complained of feeling dizzy, his brother said. As he fought the disease, the cancer spread to his lungs, liver and chest. Hance, who wasn't gay, uplifted the city's spirits two years ago when a cellphone video of him dancing on duty and in uniform with reveler Aaron Santis at the Manhattan pride parade to the Michael Jackson song "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" went viral. RIP.
The 13-second video has been viewed nearly 8 million times, said Paige Ponzeka, who recorded the unique New York moment.

Song of the Day: 'Where We Belong' (demo) by Fleetwood Mac
Order HERE.
As if I didn't already feel old enough, a 30th anniversary edition of "Tango in the Night" is coming out later this month. The deluxe edition of the album, which probably ranks last on my list of the classic line-up's albums yet was their second-biggest seller, will be available in a 3CD/DVD/LP edition featuring newly remastered sound, unreleased recordings, rare tracks, music videos and more, including this Lindsey Buckingham demo that didn't make the final cut..
P.S.
This early, more subdued version of "Seven Wonders" is worth a listen.

Taxing My Patience
The backlash against people disappointed in Rachel Maddow's "We have Trump's taxes!" story has begun, but it's misguided: No one's "furious" or questioning her journalistic chops. We're just perplexed that she billed this as the culmination of all her excellent reporting, that seemed like it would reveal the conflicts of interest/financial ties to finally explain his hardon for Russia. In the end, many felt Trump leaked the two unrevealing pages himself, picking a year pre-Russian entanglement and one in which he actually paid taxes (albeit a bullshit amount offset by a bullshittier write-off) in a (successful) attempt to get people to stop talking about Trumpcare. (I'm not sure one way or the other.) Still, I do agree that by getting everyone to watch, the world got a recap of her last three to four weeks of reporting on Trump's business conflicts, which was a bait-and-switch that was ultimately useful and can be forgiven -- even though MSNBC used a countdown clock!!!!!!!

A Death in the Family
Read my brother's Washington Post obituary HERE.
Although my heart is irrevocably broken, I still realize I am the luckiest guy on earth to have had Bill as my big brother these past 49 years and nine months. Thank you for everything you taught me -- which books to read, bands to listen to, movies and shows to watch; how to be a better writer and editor; and how to find the perfect apartment -- and all the fun we had growing up -- designing our Fisher-Price city; playing tennis at Village and La Casita; creating our own computer tennis-rankings system (on a Commodore VIC-20!); and all those concerts and horror movies you took me and my friends to see. Life is not fair -- and I know there will be many more angry moments ahead. But right now all I can think about is how fortunate our family was to have you in it, and how much I'm going to miss you, Billy. xo
