Page 1 Roundup (01/11)
Landry got engaged to Kirsten Dunst?! Read HERE.
THIS is not fake news.
I hear Obama's farewell speech was a real tearjerker -- "from Selma to Stonewall" -- but I couldn't even bring myself to watch it. And I'm starting to wonder how I'm going to be able to function when this Meryl Streep thing has only made it even clearer that we live in a world of truly reprehensible people. Didn't we almost have it all?
China thinks we ride escalators incorrectly. (Let me guess, you're supposed to stand on top of each other.) Read HERE.

Fake Out
I still don't think Republicans understand what "fake news" is. Fake news is something untrue that is presented as being factual in an attempt to mislead readers. The stories about Trump and Russia were never presented as being news accounts of his business dealings and peccadilloes. They are fair and accurate accounts of what went on with this intelligence dossier that was presented to Trump and President Obama, details of which reporters have gone out of their way to make clear have not been verified in any way whatsoever. If the information contained in the dossier is incorrect, that's an entirely different thing. (And if you want to talk about whether the dossier should have been reported on at all, see: WIKILEAKS.) Trump had no problem spreading actual fake news stories about Clinton (and Obama) and then when asked whether or not he thought some of the more outlandish ones were actually true, he'd just say, "I don't know. I just know what I saw on the Internet" and kept on repeating them. "Fake news" has also become a conservative catchall for "news we don't like." Sadly, there really is no such thing as facts anymore thanks to the right. If we can't all agree that Trump mocked Serge Kovaleski, what chance do we have on agreeing on anything at all?

One Family's Hell
Read a harrowing story about a family who lives not far from where I grew up in Arizona. One son, below, died in an auto accident and the other became an opiate/heroin addict -- something his pharmacist father and ER nurse mother didn't even realize was happening. Read HERE.

Dominic Thiem Visits the Beach in Sydney
Not a fan of swimming in the ocean -- Big Surf in Tempe was the closest I liked to get to salt water -- so this waterless beach looks right up my ally! Watch HERE.

Nora Burns Brings 'David's Friend' to The Club at La Mama
Became a huge fan of Nora Burns after seeing her in Unitard's "House of Tards" and simply cannot wait to see her latest performance of "David's Friend":
Veterans of the East Village in the 1980s, a heady era, continue to tell their stories of a hellish yet halcyon time in their lives. Nora Burns, the veteran downtown performer, wrote and performs “David’s Friend.” It conjures the club scene of NYC in the 1980s, when Nora was a brazen fag hag in love with her gay friend, David. Yes, David met his end during the plague years, but this show is more of an irreverent celebration than a pious memorial. “David’s Friend” runs at The Club at La Mama Jan 27 to Feb 5. Tickets HERE.I'll be there opening night -- hope to see you then!

Just Can't Thiel With It
Just how bit of a tool is thin-skinned homosexual Peter Thiel? The Trump-loving billionaire had this to say when having it pointed out to him that President Obama had eight years without any ethical shadiness:
“But there’s a point where no corruption can be a bad thing. It can mean that things are too boring.”And this when asked about Trump's stance on gay rights:
“I think Trump is very good on gay rights,” Mr. Thiel says. “I don’t think he will reverse anything. I would obviously be concerned if I thought otherwise.”... and on Pence, who is one heartbeat away from the presidency
"You know, maybe I should be worried but I’m not that worried about it,” he replies. Is this what passes for "deep" these days? Read HERE.
