Mr Hipster or Sporting Stubble? How the style of a man's facial hair gives away what they do for a living

This study claims that wordsmiths -- such as authors and journalists -- shun beards, but that certainly hasn't been my newsroom experience. See if the results rub you the wrong way too HERE.

With Chris and Sebastian

Had a fun but mostly sleepless weekend. Did make it to a nice birthday party for my friend Chris (top left), who is about to be a father of twins with his hubby, Brian. But spent the majority of the time working on 11th hour edits to my book, all of which should have been done ten week ago yesterday. Finally I crashed Sunday morning -- as proven by this photo Michael snapped of me with you-know-who.

Or so Sean Eldrige -- the husband of Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes -- has been dubbed by the press as he announced his run for Congress in rural New York district after the couple purchased a weekend estate there. While he's certainly in good company as these things go (Bobby Kennedy, Hillary Rodham Clinton), what makes this even more egregious is that he had already bought a "weekend house" in another district, but then realized he couldn't unseat the incumbant so got his hubby to buy another! But I guess it's true what they say: The rich are different. I wonder if he can swing an endorsement from The New Rpublic. Read HERE.

Hillary in Midair

She’s learned from her mistakes. Three years before November 8, 2016, she’s working hard to be relaxed, calm, easy. But, all the while, the old Clinton gears are whirring.

Hillary Rodham Clinton resurfaces, giving her first interview in months to New York magazine:
“This election is more than three years away, and I just don’t think it’s good for the country [to decide right now]. It’s like when you meet somebody at a party and they look over your shoulder to see who else is there, and you want to talk to them about something that’s really important; in fact, maybe you came to the party to talk to that particular person, and they just want to know what’s next. I feel like that’s our political process right now. I just don’t think it is good.”
Like that's ever stopped pundits -- they were discussing 2016 the night Obama was reelected!

RIP: Carolyn Cassady, Beat Generation Writer, Is Dead at 90

With Neal Cassady in 1952

Via NYT:
Carolyn Cassady, a writer who entered the American consciousness in 1957 as a character in Jack Kerouac’s novel “On the Road,” and decades later chronicled her life as a member of the Beat Generation, died on Friday near her home in Bracknell, England. She was 90.
Ms. Cassady, whom Jerry Cimino, director of the Beat Museum in San Francisco, called “the grande dame of the Beat Generation,” was a central figure in the real-life circle of friends whose travels across the country in search of kicks and revelation were immortalized in “On the Road.” She was the inspiration for the character Camille, the second wife of Dean Moriarty, the “wild yea-saying overburst of American joy” who makes the novel go go go. Dean Moriarty was based on Neal Cassady, her husband during the period recounted in the novel.

Song of the Day: 'Teenage Dream' by Katy Perry

Listen, it's hard for me to imagine someone today as into Katy Perry as people of my generation were Debbie Harry or Madonna. But I cannot deny that she makes some incredibly infectious pop music -- none more so than "Teenage Dream," the titular song from her albums-don't-do-this-incredibly-well-anymore 2010 release. Not only that, she seems like a genuinely nice person, as evidenced by this:

With Nick Cearley

Had an incredibly fun time last night at the Skivvies show at 54 Below, the sparkling theater performance space in the basement of the old Studio 54. If you love pop music and people with above-average IQs but haven't checked the Skivvies out yet, all I can say is you're probably prime Asperger material and need to make some friends and just go. Without giving too much away -- the element of surprise is what makes the show such a treat -- we were treated to surprise appearances by Miley Cyrus and Amy Winehouse, not to mention dreamboats Matt Doyle ( "Spring Awakening," "War Horse" and "The Book of Mormon") and Nick Adams ("Priscilla, Queen of the Desert," "La Cage aux Folles" and "The Guy Who Made Mario Lopez's Biceps Feel Inferior"). Nick Cearley and Lauren Molin -- the Skivvies proper -- never disappoint. To learn more and to find out about the duo's upcoming gigs, click HERE.
