Stonehenge Partners, the company that bought a 417-unit, three building complex on W. 97th St. near Amsterdam Ave. in 2006 told residents this month that a newly minted gym is only open to market rate tenants. The company stands by its policy. Meanwhile Public Advocate Letitia James called the policy illegal and promised to file a discrimination complaint with the Commission on Human Rights.
Even though I have a rent-stablized apartment, I actually pay two to three times more than many of my neighbors who have been there 30-plus years, so I feel I am in a position to say this is bullshit.
