Our new mayor has not even started and members of ACT-Up want him to know that the AIDS crsis is not over in New York City. I approve of this message.
On a related note, last night I finally got around to watching "The Battle of amfAR" on HBO, Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman's powerful documentary on the formation of the country's first national AIDS organization. I must confess I was crying from beginning to end -- thankfully it's a compact 40 minutes -- in awe of all that Elizabeth Taylor and research scientist Mathilde Krim did for the world. I keep hearing how young people do not comprehend the seriousness of HIV. Perhaps making this compelling documentary required viewing for junior high students is just what the doctor ordered. Don't miss it, guys.
