The world lost a truly great man today.
“He no longer belongs to us, be belongs to the ages,” Mr. Obama said in a brief statement from the White House after Mr. Mandela, 95 years old, died at his home in Johannesburg following a lengthy health battle. “I am one of the countless millions who drew inspiration from Nelson Mandela’s life.” The president has called Mr. Mandela a personal hero of his, and noted Thursday that his first political action was at a protest against apartheid. Mr. Obama said he studied Mr. Mandela’s words and writings. “I cannot fully imagine my own life without the example that Nelson Mandela set. And so long as I live I will do what I can to learn from him,” President Obama said. (Via WSJ)
