What a difference a few weeks make. From the government shutdown to the Obamacare rollout, Mnahattan Mini Storage may need to alter this campaign a bit. It's certainly true that the always-transparent Republicans are suspiciously concerned and passionate about the 2 percent of Americans whose health insurance premiums will go up as a result of the Affordable Care Act -- as will their level of coverage! -- when they never gave a rat's ass about the 30 million Americans who didn't have health insurance at all , never mind the fact that these people were sticking us with their ER bill. (So much for personal responsibility when it's the president's "idea"!)
What I think is the bigger and less-obvious takeaway here now is something airlines have known forever. When a flight is canceled, you never kick the passengers off the next flight to make room for these displaced travelers. They're already pissed, so you're better off keeping this contained group of angry people waiting -- what's the difference? They're already livid! -- rather than upsetting a new group, and another one after that. Obamacare has probably already helped far more people than it's hurt -- and has the potential to improve the lives of millions and millions more after that, as well as lowering health-care costs for everyone -- yet by breaking the Airline Rule No. 1, all we are hearng about is the new bunch of pissed-off people instead of any of the happy ones.
